Crystal Creek, Chillingham & Zara
A short drive from the centre of Murwillumbah but a million miles away from
the hustle and bustle of everyday life ~ feel like you're in the middle of
nowhere and enjoy the peace and quiet of the country air.
Named for the semi precious stones found in the creek that runs through the
area,
Crystal Creek is considered one of the most picturesque areas in the Tweed, with
spectacular views from Mt Warning to the Springbrook Range.
Crystal Creek was first
settled by Europeans searching for Red Cedar in the mid 19th Century.
Nowadays
it's well known for the broad range of available tourist accommodation. Offering
everything from an internationally awarded eco-tourist retreat, B&B's and self
contained cottages to a family farm-stay and 4WD Camp School, as well as
miniature animal farm and cafe, you're sure to find something to your taste in
Crystal Creek.
Chillingham is a little further on, a quaint village with general store,
tropical fruit stall, pottery and home-made soap shop, Chillingham is a
beautiful place for a stop-over on the way to Natural Arch.
The locality of Zara takes over as you cross the bridge just past Chillingham
Store on your way to Tyalgum. Tyalgum has a good old fashioned Aussie pub and selection of quaint stores,
including Flutterbies Cafe which runs regular games nights, pizza nights and
even the odd dinner dance ~ all of which the locals look forward to, which is a
good sign!
